Uploading To Site

How do I upload my web site to my hosting account with Net Star?

You can transfer to your account by FTP or with the use of Front Page. You can on your own upload to your site as many time as you would like free of charge. If you do not know how, your web designer can help you with this. You may find this link helpful. WS_FTP PRO SETUP

I am having problems uploading to my site what should I do?

These are some of the most common problems please read and follow carefully. 

Make sure you are typing in all of the letters correctly in lower case. 

Make sure you have chosen the right upload for your web page generator either Front Page if you are using Microsoft Front Page or FTP for all other web editor programs.  If you have selected the wrong server_ type please notify us. customercare@netstartel.com 

 Make sure you are placing the files in the root folder and not the personal folder of the user.  See example below

You will notice the four folders you are in the root directory at this point. This is the web folder you want to upload into.

Why there is more than one "web" folder, which of them is identified as the root directory and why?

Is there any charge associated with the uploading of my web site?

We will upload your site free when you select our hosting services. If for some reasons the links are not working properly to your site we will contact you and inform you that the site that was uploaded and is in need of repair. If you wish for us to fix the links we will charge you a nominal fee of $20.00 per hour to fix the link. A minimum of one hour will be charge to fix links if requested by you. If you would like to repair the links yourself we will direct you to the admin section of your site.
 

Can I upload pages frequently?

Each account comes with one FTP or Front Page account. You have full access to your space via FTP 24 hours a day, 7 days a week so you can update your site at your leisure. You will also have the same options with Front Page.

What are FrontPage extensions and do you support them?

If you use Microsoft FrontPage 98 to publish pages to the Net, you will need FrontPage 98 extensions supported. If you use Microsoft FrontPage 2000 to publish pages to the Net, you will need FrontPage 2000 extensions supported. 

Can I depend on fast downloading speeds when others access my site?

YES! We provide dedicated lines to the Internet. Giving you incredible speed at all times!

Do you offer secure server space for transferring credit card information?

YES! Our servers are equipped with the latest SSL technology so your customers can safely order your products or services online! Normally, any text sent from your browser is sent as plain text. This means that a hacker could potentially intercept the information sent from your browser and read it. It is available on Plans 3 and 4.

By using the secure server (SSL), the information is encrypted before it is sent. It would be practically impossible for anyone to decrypt it without knowing the key. You DO NOT have to buy a security certificate to enable the secure server - you can use ours FREE of charge. We will provide you with the name of the server when your account is activated!

How much data transfer do you allow for my web site?

We are pleased to offer our clients with unlimited web site traffic on all of our account packages! However, in order to maintain the integrity of our system the following limitations apply. The following sites do not qualify for our unlimited traffic policy:
- WE ABSOLUTELY DO NOT TOLERATE SPAMMING ~ Any accounts failing to adhere to this policy will be deactivated without warning - we will show you the proof!
- Sites with more than one main page.
- Sites housing multiple directories with unrelated information.
- Multiple hosts residing at an IP address or domain name we provide.
- Sites with banners, graphics, or cgi's running from their domain being used on other domains.
- Sites with graphic archives or galleries.
- Sites offering download archives such as .zip, .tar, .ra and .gz.
- Sites using more than 20% of system resources.

All sites are monitored and any that are in violation to the above, the account owner will be contacted via email. The account in question will be subject to deactivation. NOTE: Spammers get no warning of account deactivation!

Is it possible to password protect a folder on your server?

Yes this is accomplished through your web publishing software. See your web designer for more information on how to do this.

What is a CGI-bin and do I get one?

A CGI-bin is where you would store CGI scripts. These scripts; are used to generate online order forms, guestbooks, shopping carts, counters, and more! YES, every account comes with a local CGI-bin!

What CGI scripts come already installed?

At this time we do not provide any pre-installed scripts - we are working toward adding scripts in the near future. There are many sites on the net that provide many free, as well as paid scripts. IT IS YOUR RESPONSIBILITY TO obtain permission from the script owners in order to use the script on your site. Please visit the web to learn more about scripts. Email

What are my incoming and out going mail servers?

E-mail Configuration:

IMPORTANT : Do Not use caps
Outgoing (SMTP) : mail.your-local-isp.com
Incoming (POP) : mail.whateveryourdomainname.com

 

This will not affect how your email is labeled it will still show it is coming from your domain name even though you will be using your local ISP for an outgoing mail server. Because of spamming most companies are set up in this manner. You will always have mail servers available to you from you local ISP. If you cannot use them we can provide an outgoing mail sever (ipass) for 3.00 additional per month. However if you do not need it why pay for it since you are already paying for internet access with access to the mail server of your local ISP.

 

What are autoresponders/infobots and how many do I get?

You can set up autoresponders to automatically respond to incoming email. For example, if you had an order form which your customers email to you, you can set up an autoresponder to email the customer a confirmation message. They're also known as Infobots. There are many other uses for autoresponders/infobots, such as giving information to people who don't have access to the Internet but still have an email account such as Juno. Each account plan comes with a pre-specified amount of autoresponds, view our Hosting Plans for complete details of each plan! 

I appear to be receiving all emails, I still cannot send emails from any of the email accounts on my domain what should I do?

The problem is that the mail server cannot correctly resolve your ip address to a host/domain name. This usually happens when the ISP does not provide proper forward and reverse name lookups.

Set your outgoing SMTP server to your local ISP's mail server. This should not affect your outgoing mail in anyway, but unless your ISP is doing very strict relaying rules; it should work normally.

 

What are email aliases and how many can I use?

Email aliases are email addresses that you make up. Any mail sent to these aliases would automatically be forwarded to your existing POP email account or redirected to another third party POP account. You can have as many email aliases as you want, your mail account is pre-configured to "Catch All" email directed at yourname@yourdomain.com. (i.e. sales@yourdomain.com, info@yourdomain.com help@yourdomain.com

What the difference between having multiple Mail Aliases and having multiple POP 3 Accounts?

Different POP 3 accounts would be separate boxes (Accounts). You would need to set three separate accounts on your computer and they would go to three different boxes on the server and pull your mail from each box. If these are to go to separate users this is good because each user would want to have their own email box. You can set up three different accounts on one computer.

What about the Traffic Statistical Software?

Traffic analysis software comes pre-installed with every web hosting account! We use HTTP-Analyze and it is very easy to access. If you already have an account with us, you can access your weekly stats by viewing the stats on your domain link.  http://yourdomain.com/siteadmin enter your passwords for your account. To the left you will see a tab that reads site usage. Click on it and you will see in the middle of the screen several links to choose to see various stats of your site.

What about Technical Support?

We provide web hosting services to many clients and from experience we have found that handling support request via email to be to our clients greatest advantage. We answer all email on the same day it is received - most often in only a few hours. We have implemented a this FAQ section to help you with all aspects of your web hosting account. In the event your are experiencing server difficulties outside the scope of the manual you can customercare@netstartel.com Technical Support. WE RESPOND TO ALL SERVER RELATED SUPPORT EMAIL on the day that they are received..

What kind of technical support do you NOT provide?

We do NOT provide any technical support relating to HTML syntax, Java programming, JavaScripting, any 3rd party software, CGI programming, or CGI scripts, nor any other non-network related aspect.

What happens if there is a problem with the domain name I have registered?.

Can I upgrade my hosting package?

Our policy at present permits you to upgrade without any penalties. However if you upgrade to Plan 3 or Plan 4 you will be charged the additional amount for set up on that package less your initial set up fee.

 How many pages can I load with my hosting plan?

How much disk space do I get for my web pages and graphics?

Plan 4: Our 250MB package can hold over 500 pages with plenty more room for graphics, sounds, scripts, and other files!

Plan 3: Our 100MB package can hold over 300 pages with plenty more room for graphics, sounds, scripts, and other files!

Plan 2: Our 50MB package can hold over 150 pages with plenty more room for graphics, sounds, scripts, and other files!

Plan 1: Our 10MB package can hold over 50 pages with plenty more room for graphics, sounds, scripts, and other files!
